{"id":448,"date":"2016-09-13T09:25:26","date_gmt":"2016-09-13T09:25:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5393.temp.domains\/~quranive\/\/?p=448"},"modified":"2022-01-24T01:24:52","modified_gmt":"2022-01-24T01:24:52","slug":"good-references-for-vacuum-flow-calculations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mechanicsandmachines.com\/?p=448","title":{"rendered":"Good References for Vacuum Flow Calculations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High vacuum systems are becoming more common and a number of semiconductor processes already operate in high vacuum. &nbsp;The following references are ones that I have found useful in performing vacuum system calculations.<\/p>\n<p>Pfeiffer Vacuum, which manufactures vacuum pumps and other components, has a nice PDF handbook which is free to download. &nbsp;It covers the basics of vacuum as well as operating principles of various pumps and as well as a number of practical issues.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pfeiffer-vacuum.com\/filepool\/File\/Vacuum-Technology-Book\/Vacuum-Technology-Book-II-Part-2.pdf?referer=1456&amp;request_locale=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.pfeiffer-vacuum.com\/filepool\/File\/Vacuum-Technology-Book\/Vacuum-Technology-Book-II-Part-2.pdf?referer=1456&amp;request_locale=en_US<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Handbook of Vacuum Technology<\/em> edited by Karl Jousten is a thorough reference with detailed calculations for wide variety of problems in vacuum systems.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Handbook-Vacuum-Technology-Karl-Jousten\/dp\/3527413383\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1473757440&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=hand+book+of+vacuum+technology+jousten\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amazon.com link<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The text <em>Vacuum Technology<\/em> by Roth is a classic text, although I sometimes find the constants difficult to use because of his preferred system of units and giving values only based on air. &nbsp;More general formulas would often be useful.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Vacuum-Technology-Roth-ebook\/dp\/B01D88WZOO\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1473757159&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=roth+vacuum#nav-subnav\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amazon.com link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Roth&#8217;s text on vacuum sealing,&nbsp;<em>Vacuum Sealing Techniques<\/em>, is also a good reference as leak management is always a consideration in high vacuum systems.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Sealing-Techniques-Classics-Science-Technology\/dp\/1563962594\/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amazon.com link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another reference that is free to download is the conference proceedings from <em>CERN Accelerator School: Vacuum Technology<\/em>&nbsp;held in 1999 and edited by S.
